Description:

Journal/Notes app for ownCloud

- Saves notes/journal entries as VJOURNAL records in the ownCloud Calendar.

- Integrates with ownClouds search backend.

- Sort entries by date/time ascending/descending or summary ascending/descending.

- Filter entries by timerange.

- When switching from text to html the text is parsed as MarkDown and vice-versa.

- Plain text or rich text editing (rich text editing is still buggy and immature).

- Syncs with KDEPIMs Journal part.

- Share Journal entries with other users or groups.

- Completed tasks from the Task app can be automatically added as journal entries.

- Stores entry data as json objects in each element for quick access and to minimize ajax calls.

To install this app you will first have to install the TAL Page Templates for ownCloud fromhttp://apps.owncloud.com/content/show.php/?content=154632
You will also need to have the shipped Calendar app enabled, and at least one calendar enabled to store your Journal entries in.

NOTE: This version works with both ownCloud 5 and 6.

Please report issues and feature requests at https://github.com/tanghus/journal/issues

Changelog:

0.4.1

- Share dropdown wasn't shown correctly.
- Editing a shared entry moved it to a new calendar.
For now editing shared entries is disabled to avoid data loss, because of

- Problem adding more than one entry possibly caused by updated jquery library.
- When switching from text to html the text is now parsed as MarkDown and vice-versa.

- Settings wasn't working.

0.3.3

- Update to work both on ownCloud 5 and 6.
- Fix wrong link to app installer when there were missing dependencies.

 Browser differences

by JoergPalmer on: Oct 12 2012

Maybe another piece of data for the screen rendering: when viewing in Firefox, in the date filter fields there is the text "dd-mm-yyyy" (=English), on the other hand if I use Chromium it reads as "Tag.Monat.Jahr" (=German).

Both browsers are set to German locale.

That is pretty weird as I haven't made any translations for the app. Does the same happen for the birthday field in the Contacts app?

Ah, I just noticed that Chromium has started to render date fields natively, so it uses the built-in translations, while Firefox doesn't.

Thank you :-) And I will keep developing it. I will first have to refactor some of the javascript to make it more maintainable, then next step is to add groups/tags/categories or whatever you choose to call them ;)
I have developed the backend for it for the the ownCloud 5 release, and is currently porting the Contacts app to use it, so the two apps will be developed somewhat concurrently.

 Real-time editing

What will happen if two users would edit the journal note at the same time?

The same that will happen if two people edits an event in the calendar at the same time (journal entries are saved in the calendar).
There is no locking mechanism, so whoever saves last will overwrite any changes.
Maybe that is something we should consider.

 Journal for ownCloud 5

I'm sorry that I haven't released a version for ownCloud 5 yet, but fixing bugs in ownCloud Contacts has kept me busy after the release.

If anybody's interested in helping out, I could use some testing on the current state of git master at https://github.com/tanghus/journal.
It is compatible with OC 5, but I bet there are several bugs that needs fixing first. Please report them at https://github.com/tanghus/journal/issues.
You will also need TAL for OC 5 available at https://github.com/tanghus/tal.

And of course pull requests are more than welcome ;)

I hope you all enjoy the new ownCloud 5.

 Needed features

Hello, this is a great little app that could possibly fit me perfectly with a few modifications that im trying to implement. Firstly I'd like to be able to choose visible entries accoring to calendar. Sort of like sorting according to date but instead according to calendar. Secondly I'd like to get the author filled in automatically. And oh, how would one go about adding the calendar in the entry preview to the left? Anyway, thanks and greatt app.

Great, let's see what can be done about it :)

The UI is already quite crowded, but can you file an issue at https://github.com/tanghus/journal/issues with suggestions on how you would like it? It's easier to track and discuss issues there.

If you have filled out your email under oC personal settings, it should be filled automatically.

I'm not quite sure what you mean?

I mean where the title of the entry and the time and date is. Would be really helpful if you could also see from which calendar the entry is!

Ah, yes. Makes sense. Maybe in a hover tip? My long term plan is to group them the same way as contacts are grouped in oC 5.

I am getting the same version error on Journal as I was on TAL. Journal was the reason I was installing TAL :-)

I thought the same error would pop up for Journal, so working on a release for that as well :)
I wanted to fix a bug with switching between edit modes https://github.com/tanghus/journal/issues/16, but I\'m considering dropping the HTML edit mode all together, and implement a well tested MarkDown editor instead.
Give me couple of hours, then I\'ll upload a temporary fix for the new installer quirks.
