I checked the normal stuff, files, permissions, etc and everything is fine.

Any suggestions on fixing this one?

You're missing a file which is present in all releases. Reupload and/or clear your php opcode cache if you use one. Consult Google how to do this.

 installing news

by nonparity on: Oct 5 2014

Score 50%

Some progress

due to some files apparently not being backed up properly when I created a backup of news I cleared the news directory in apps and data to start fresh.

I added the appcodechecker code in the config to skip that.

I go to enable news, gives a success but then goes to the error I mentioned earlier in which I was told that is a normal response in version 7.

I left out the first line of the message however,.

ownCloud will be updated to version 7.0.2.
The following apps will be disabled:

News (news)

Please make sure that the database, the config folder and the data folder have been backed up before proceeding.

I did not notice the news would be disabled part. After I click continue it just disables news it seems.

Other than those two directories should I have removed anything else to fully clear it or ?

Thanks!

okay. I skipped removing the tables from the database. Should have double checked that.

Those are removed.

Now I am getting further but still with an error :(

App \"News\" can't be installed because it is not compatible with this version of ownCloud.

 version

by nonparity on: Oct 5 2014

Is the 7.0.3 version of owncloud correct or a typo? I have 7.0.2 installed so I went to the updated plugin which shows that is the current version. I now went to https://owncloud.org/install/ and 7.0.2 is what is listed too.

Do we have a way to download news for 7.0.2 still or any other ideas on getting this to work?

Thanks!

The release on Github is a prerelease which won\'t work on 7.0.2. Use the one from the store or jump to the 3.202 tag if youre using the git version by doing git checkout tags/3.202 or download the version from the store

PS: 7.0.3 should be out in a couple of days

Ah right, the app was disabled :)

If you check the requirements ownCloud 7.0.3 is the minimum version, here's the RC1 http://forum.owncloud.org/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=24254

 python

I thought I posted this but I dont see it now so maybe I didnt. If its a duplicate I apologize.

I am trying to use the python script instead of the cron but when it runs I am getting this error

index.php/apps/news/api/v1-4: No JSON object could
be decoded
Trying again in 30 seconds

I see a bugfix was deployed today for correct route for python. Is that related to this error?

Centos 6.5 and working news version

by rfettheidler on: Oct 29 2014

Score 50%

The latest working news version with centos/redhat 6.5 is 3.105. All news version > 3.105 use libxml >= 2.7.8.
the latest libxml2 version for this distribution is libxml2 2.7.6

Is any compatibility mode planned?

Strictly speaking: CentOS 6 has never been fully supported since the release (unsupported since 1.0 actually), mostly because they ship a ridicously unpatched PHP version (5.3.3). If you were able to use it until now you've installed a package from somewhere else, as in: did extra work.

The same applies for libxml which also stopped at 2.7.6 (2.7.8 being the latest patch release). It should not be that hard to create a package with a newer libxml version for CentOS 6, http://xmlsoft.org/ (official source) even provides RPM packages.

The requirements change was also done after the CentOS 7 release so you can upgrade your server if you want to use a free, rpm based distro. For a full list of supported distros see https://github.com/owncloud/news#supported-operating-systems

So no, there are no plans to make the app compatible with CentOS 6
