Mozilla Sync is a simple ownCloud app integrating the Mozilla Sync API in an ownCloud server. It allows users to synchronize Firefox data (e.g. bookmarks, passwords, history,...) using their ownCloud server. This app is a fork of mjaskurzynski's mozilla_sync app, which was not developed anymore.

Please look at the and inside the docs/ folder for setup instructions, hints and configuration options.

 Works on FF41!

by qthepirate on: Oct 26 2015

Works on 41! What I did:
1. Go to about:config in FF and change services.sync.tokenServerURI to what shows in the Personal tab (This will change with FF42).

2. Added services.sync.username and just set the string to whatever.

3. Create new account using custom server (what shows in the personal tab)

4. Checked the personal tab to see the change to add "sync status"

5. Android: Followed this guide
(Still the account will add, but still trying to get it to sync)

On Android I use the "Firefox Sync (deprecated)" account type, which appears to me, to set up sync in the old fashion way.

I'm running owncloud 7.0.4 on Raspbian server and PaleMoon 25.8.1 (based on Mozilla Firefox) for linux at the Desktop. When I create new account using my server and click "Next" PaleMoon says that there is an unknown error. Owncloud itself is working fine. What I'm doing wrong?

So what's the deal with FF44, on mobile & desktop ?
It seems the way to sync has changed.

services.sync.tokenServerURI has changed to identity.sync.tokenserver.uri, otherwise it's the same process as before

 Warning with ownCloud 9.0

Hi Ogasser,

FYI (in case you haven't upgraded to OC9 yet), your Mozilla Sync app still works but now gives the follow warning:

"This app has no minimum ownCloud version assigned. This will be an error in ownCloud 11 and later."

Depending on what the OC devs decide, your app may not be able to be installed with OC 11. How difficult is it to update the app to avoid this warning?

On a side note, I switched to Pale Moon last year, which still uses Mozilla Sync 1.1, so your app has been invaluable to me. Even if you don't upgrade your app to support Sync 1.5, it would be greatly appreciated if you could patch it to ensure it continues working in the future.

Thanks for your work, I love your app!

Unfortunately this does not work anymore (FF46)

this was one of the best owncloud apps, it really helped me a lot. But it stopped working at some point with one of the latest ff versions, I'm now using FF46 and cannot get it configured anymore to use the app.

Is there anybody out there who made it work with FF46 (on Kubuntu)?

Or does anybody know a good alternative for this?

Thanks & Cheers,

I don't know of an alternative to the app, but you could switch to using Pale Moon over Firefox. It's a fork of Firefox so it'll be familiar, and it still uses the older style sync backend :-)
